Top Ten Sellers
Your store's Top Ten Sellers is an amazingly powerful tool.. more powerful than you could imagine. It's almost a self fulfilling prophecy in that, when people buy enough of a certain product... it'll keep selling well. We suspected this would happen, but you can't make such assumptions until enough data has been collated to prove whether it works in a real life scenario.

Strangely enough, it does. In almost all of the stores we've built, the products which reach top ten status after just a few months tend to stay within the top ten but may shuffle around somewhat based on seasonal trends. When a store first launches, the top ten sellers isn't a true representation of which products sell more than others because the store is just getting started and the products may only have one sale each at that point, so the top ten may just be the FIRST ten products which have all sold one unit, or the LATEST ten products to sell one unit. After a while though, the top seller statistics become a true reflection of the buying trends of the customer.

When we compare our clients' Top Ten Sellers with their product sales stats, they consistently show that these products are being purchased regularly by their customers. It doesn't necessarily mean that the products are the best products on the store, but it comes down to social compliance and the natural curiosity whereby people see a product at the number one position and will instinctively click through to find out more about that product... after all... it IS the top selling product on your store! Once there, the chances are, your customer will be enticed enough by the image, the description, and the popularity, to make a purchase themselves which sustains the high level of sales for this item.

It's somewhat unfortunate because it does mean that your Top Ten Sellers are unlikely to change over a short period of time. That's why we also have category based Top Sellers!

The category based Top Sellers appear on every product page of your store, just like your regular Top Ten Sellers, but they are based entirely on whichever category is currently being viewed. For example, if your customer navigates through to the "DVD" category of your store then the individual category based Top Sellers box will reflect the top selling items in THAT category only. Once they move to the "Books" category, then the content will reflect the sales from the Books category, and so it continues.

This allows for fresh content from a category to category point of view, even if the store's main Top Ten Sellers ends up in temporary limbo. The store Top Ten Sellers and category based Top Sellers are excellent internal marketing tools, helping your products to sell themselves.
